Frequently Asked Audition Questions

  • How do your auditions work?

You may be asked to read from the script. For some productions, you may pre-register via email and declare the roles you are interested in. You will then receive some excerpts from the script prior to auditions. The audition still may require you to read material from the script that was not provided prior. You may also be asked to prepare a monologue.

Tip: It is sometimes possible to find scripts at the public library.

  • What about musical auditions?

For musical auditions, you will be asked to sing. Music will be provided ahead of time and the musical director will be available during auditions to teach you the piece. We will then ask you to sing, accompanied by piano.

There may be minor choreography involved, so please dress appropriately.

  • How do I register for auditions?

Information regarding days and times for auditions and how to register will be posted well in advance. You can also get a head start by filling out the audition paperwork ahead of time. This includes information about you and your experience, conflicts with the rehearsal schedule, and indicating which role you are interested in.

  • How often are rehearsals?

Our rehearsal period for a show is typically 2 to 3 months. depending on the complexity of the show. Rehearsal schedules vary, but normally include 2 week nights (for about 2 to 3 hours) and 1 weekend day (for about 4 to 5 hours.) Depending on your role, you may not be required to attend all rehearsals.

  • How many performances are typical?

Our performances generally run 2 full weekends, with 7:00 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and a 2:00 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday.

  • What tips can you share for auditioners?

    • We are always happy to audition and add new talent to our productions. Come with an open mind and a positive attitude. It is always better to be willing to audition for multiple roles, as our production team may see you as a fit for something you didn't think of.
    •
    • Arrive On Time. We like to start our rehearsals right on time, so auditions is your chance to show us that timeliness won't be a problem for you. Depending on the turnout, auditions can take a while (and we know everyone's time is important) so we like to get started right on time.
    • No Apologies! We know auditioning isn't easy, and we appreciate you giving it your all. If you weren't happy with how you read something, don't apologize. You will have plenty of opportunities to read for the role.
    • Come ready to perform and own the room. We love to see that actors have prepared for the role. They understand the plot and the character (s) they are auditioning for. They do more than just read. They move around, interact with other actors, and really perform for us.
